Project 3 - Light
The purpose of this project is to design a proposed non- denominational chapel located on the campus of Farmingdale State College. The site was to be picked by us with reasoning. The chapel must have creative use of light, not allowing light to be directed to personnel or allowed to travel across the entirety of the space. The building should be integrated in the fabric of the campus and requests have been made for the design of the chapel to not be symmetrical.
Light Background Research
Le Corbusier
Palace of Assembly
Changdigarh, India
The palace of assembly had unique use of light through cut outs in walls and open spaces around edges that allowed light to come into the spaces and bounce off curved bright colored walls.
Researching the Palace of Assembly gave me some insight on the importance of openings throughout the building to lighten them up. Where you place these openings is important and could impact a space is interpreted.
